Liga Studio

LIGA by Pierre Alexandre & Matthieu_i1.jpg

New design brand Liga Studio's sexy storage boxes had the wow factor at the recent London Design Fair. The Fizz is suitably hooked...

BY DEE IVA

We love a bit of ombré at the Fizz so when we saw these striking pieces at the London Design Fair we were instantly smitten. Simple, functional and good looking, they tick all the right boxes. Formed from powder-coated steel, the 'Liga' range is made up of a small box, bedside and coffee table which double up as multi-functional storage units. The punchy colour combinations teamed with the fluorescent orange central ligature (which acts as a hinge) are breathtakingly beautiful and hard to ignore.

It’s the first collection by Liga Studio, young design duo Pierre Alexandre Cesbron and Matthieu Muller, who collaborated on the project while studying at ENSCI-Les Ateliers in Paris. It’s an impressive debut, making Liga Studio one to watch. We’re keeping our eyes peeled…

ClassiCon

Here at the Fizz we love a quirky side table and at this year's Milan Furniture Fair two contenders from ClassiCon captured our imagination...

BY DEE IVA

German design brand ClassiCon is celebrating 25 years of a fruitful collaboration with minimalistic German designer Konstantin Grcic. To mark the occasion the 'Black Edition' gathers together some of Grcic's most iconic pieces for ClassiCon and relaunches them in jet black emphasising their angular sculptural shapes. We've fallen for the classic 'Diana' series of side tables which has been now been given the nocturnal treatment. There are three versions to choose from, each one subtly different from the other as Grcic bends and folds sheet steel in this truly modern classic.

At the other end of the spectrum, French designer Victoria Wilmotte has folded high-gloss polished stainless steel into a covetable side table that glows like a precious gemstone. The faceted base of the 'Pli' side table for ClassiCon sports seductive reflections while the cool crystal glass top is a calm pool of colour. For maximum 'oooh' factor head straight for the bewitching glow of topaz green or sapphire blue.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec x HAY

This summer we'll be indulging in a little outdoor living, Bouroullec style...

BY DEE IVA

As summer approaches in the northern hemisphere our thoughts are turning to hazy days and long evenings spent eating and drinking alfresco. Outdoor furniture is big business these days as major designers are turning their attention to covetable pieces with style-savvy sun lovers in mind.

French design duo Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (right) has collaborated with Danish firm HAY to produce a contemporary and affordable range of outdoor furniture that’s destined to become a classic. Consisting of 13 pieces, the 'Palissade Collection'’s curvy slatted seating, tables, benches, ottomans and stools are made from electro-galvanized, powder-coated steel in three elegant colours – light grey, anthracite and olive green – that sit well in both urban and natural settings.

Bette

German brand Bette is adding feisty colour and shapely frames to bathrooms. All-white is so last decade!

BY DEE IVA

Bathroom design is often one of the most understated areas in the interiors arena. White has reigned as the colour of choice for so long, and although we've seen changes in materials and tweaking of shapes there has not been a great deal to excite the senses.

German company Bette has changed all that with the striking BetteLux Shape range of baths, basins and bathroom furniture (from towel rails to stools and shelves), designed by Potsdam-based Dominik Tesseraux of Tesseraux + Partner. The addition of a simple elegant steel frame creates a sense of lightness and modernity with added wow factor. The Mondrian-like rectangular frames come in different finishes to either complement or contrast with baths and basins.

Those with strong purist leanings will probably still go for the white option, which can be combined with subtle mint frames, but we think maximum style points have to be awarded to the deeply desirable black bath and basin, especially when teamed with Bette's dusky pink frame. Glamazons of the world unite...

Buster + Punch

Making LED sexy with their elegant and innovative 'Buster' bulb – the world’s first designer LED light bulb – London design firm Buster + Punch is raising the bar in lighting technologies. LED is finally having a ‘moment’. And about time too...

BY CLAIRE BINGHAM

You don’t have to have an affinity for old-school light bulbs and switches to appreciate Buster + Punch's designs, but it certainly helps.

Launched in 2013 by the London-born, Stockholm-based architect and industrial designer Massimo Buster Minale (right), Buster + Punch has carved out a reputation for precision-cut lighting and beautifully crafted hardware. Mining the realms of art, music and fashion for inspiration, Minale’s rough-luxe aesthetic and passion for metalwork is matched only by his predilection for custom-built choppers, tattoos and banging tunes.

BELOW FROM LEFT: 'Hero' bronzed gun metal and brass chandelier, £999; 'Rockstar' whisky bar, from £2,999; 'Heavy Metal' candle holders, from £35 each

Known for their rock n’ roll designs – from bespoke drinks cabinets with quilted satin interiors to bronzed metal chandeliers and stackable candle holders in rose copper, steel and bronze – the latest addition to the label is the new 'Buster' bulb. A contemporary version of the Edison filament bulb, the teardrop-shaped glass shell houses a resin light pipe that creates a crisp, clean light quality. In a choice of gold, smoked or crystal glass, the bulbs are finished with a satin metallic sheen, so they look just as good off as they do on. Thinking of adding a lampshade? How very dare you...
