Aman Skincare

For a beauty encounter of a holistic kind, draw your palms together in your heart space for Aman Skincare – a new skincare and body line from luxury travel group Aman

BY CLAIRE BINGHAM

Aman is renowned for impeccably designed resorts all over the world, so it’s perhaps surprising that the luxury hotel group hasn’t made a foray into a spa collection before. Now, though, you can enjoy a little Aman magic at home thanks to the launch of new holistic range Aman Skincare – while upping your bathroom shelfie ante with the sake bottle-inspired designs by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma

Recently renowned for the cliff-like V&A Dundee museum building in Scotland, Kengo’s intention with this beauty brief was to capture the essence of Aman in physical form. The curves of the handsomely shaped bottles fit beautifully in the hand and it’s a sensorial experience – from the smoothness of touch to the appearance of the natural wood grain – and, of course, the sublime scents and star performance of the unisex products inside.

Categorised into three skincare ‘pathways’ – Grounding, Nourishing and Purifying – the sustainable collection takes its cue from nature and ancient wellness traditions, with ingredients influenced by the various Aman resort destinations.

Aman Skincare features 30 all-natural products for the face, body and bath, with evocative names such as ‘Jade Mask Concentrate’ and ‘Sacred Heart Balm’, the latter a mood-boosting, antioxidant-rich balm combining hydrating murumuru seed, shea and cupuaçu butters with uplifting tuberose, frangipani and vanilla oils. It’s all extremely transportative – and with prices starting at £40, nicely aspirational too.

Susanne Kaufmann - Thin is in

Black, white and blue, it's a combination that never fails to look contemporary. Especially when teamed with stretched out skinny type...

BY AMY BRADFORD

We’re loving the graphic punch of this packaging for Austrian beauty brand Susanne Kaufmann’s new haircare line. Luxurious and completely organic, it includes shampoos, conditioners, an intensive mask and a serum, all with the word ‘hair’ spelled out on the containers in fabulously spindly type. Plant-based ingredients and softening silk proteins – there are no clogging silicones here – work to create naturally healthy hair and scalp.

Kahina Giving Beauty: Moroccan skincare secrets

Morocco's beauty secrets are captured in this new serum and face oil by Kahina Giving Beauty

BY AMY BRADFORD

Ethical New York skincare brand Kahina Giving Beauty makes use of the finest ingredients from Morocco, such as Fairtrade argan oil, which is harvested by Berber tribeswomen. Its latest launches also pay homage to Moroccan ingredients. 'Essaouira Body Serum' is inspired by the coastal town of the same name, west of Marrakech, a whitewashed paradise designed by a group of European architects in the 18th-century, where Jimi Hendrix chilled out in 1969. Containing precious argan, coconut and olive-fruit oils, it’s exotically scented with a blend of damask rose, lavender, sandalwood and petitgrain.

The brand has also unveiled its Prickly Pear Seed Oil, a wonderful face oil derived from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus. The plant is known for its extreme tolerance to drought and contains powerful levels of antioxidants and essential fatty acids, as well as vitamin K, which banishes under-eye circles. The work of extracting prickly pear oil is difficult and time-consuming – it takes around four days to collect and dry enough tiny seeds to create one litre of oil – making it one of the world’s most expensive beauty elixirs.

The sleek monochrome packaging also gives these powerful potions some seriously stylish edge so your bathroom cabinet just got a facelift too...

Kahina Giving Beauty

The Berber tribes of Morocco have given up their skincare secrets to Kahina Giving Beauty, New York's ethical beauty company

BY AMY BRADFORD

Kahina Giving Beauty is a Moroccan-inspired New York brand that uses antioxidant-rich argan oil, much prized by the women of the Berber tribe for its miraculous healing properties; a percentage of profits from its sales goes to support programmes that improve their lives. The label’s latest launch is this range of beautifully packaged soaps, created with Brooklyn textile designer Amira Marion from Archive New York and inspired by Moroccan tile designs. We love the on-trend neo-geo designs that bring a little taste of North Africa to our bathroom cabinet every day...

Grown Alchemist

Grown Alchemist is at the forefront of the botanical beauty revolution. Think new-generation skincare that's organic, natural yet eco-chic

BY AMY BRADFORD

New Australian label Grown Alchemist is one of a burgeoning number of beauty brands that fuses organic botanical ingredients with cutting-edge cosmetic science. Its founders, brothers Keston and Jeremy Muijs, spent over a decade researching their formulas prior to launch. Inspired by the experience of a friend who suffered an adverse reaction to skincare while undergoing cancer treatment, they became convinced that the synthetic ingredients in many products do more harm than good – and instead set about finding plant-based actives that are compatible with human biology. Their collection includes everything from a detox serum with natural peptides and antioxidants to a gentle facial cleanser delicately scented with geranium leaf, bergamot and rose-bud. The dark amber bottles aren’t just a style thing either: unlike most plastic packaging, they are made from a hardened PET material that doesn’t leach harmful substances into liquids and creams. Looks like the natural beauty revolution just upped its game...
