The craft scene's hottest artisanal designers are throwing some shapes at the newest design show in town, London Craft Week
BY DEE IVA
The first London Craft Week has launched to great acclaim. All over the capital, specialist designer-makers, art galleries and showrooms will be displaying contemporary pieces made using traditional craft techniques. Established and emerging talents on the front line of the new craft movement will be at Collect 2015 at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea, while on the other side of town Cockpit Arts Open Studios in Holborn throws open its doors to let 170 leading designer-makers strut their stuff. Even the Queen's grocer Fortnum & Mason is showcasing work by 28 alumni from the Walpole Crafted mentoring programme. More than 100 pieces are on show including jewellery, silversmithing, ceramics, glass and millinery.
We're lusting after Ptolemy Mann's gorgeous Ikat rugs (above), from her new 'Gelim Collection' on show at The Gallery, Craft Central in Clerkenwell, where you can also enjoy a glass of wine or two on the 7 May from 6.30pm. What are you waiting for?
