Christmas is just around the corner and the goose is getting fat but mince pies and traditional Christmas pud are really just soooo over these days.
If you’re in need of inspiration for something different to see you through the festive season there’s a new 3D cookbook out in glorious Technicolor with visually arresting recipes that are guaranteed to refresh even the most jaded palette.
Former Australian school teacher-turned-baker Katherine Sabbath’s first book ‘Katherine Sabbath – Greatest Hits’ is an interactive cookbook with full-on 3D pop-up illustrations, reminiscent of the type we grew up with as children. Sabbath’s colourful and quirky inventions are brought to life by incredible paper engineering rarely seen in recipe books.
Enhanced with pull-out recipe cards, it’s an immersive journey through her candy-coloured world of cakes and desserts. Think Willy Wonka X 10 and you’re on the right track. Art directed by Brit designer-turned-Sydneysider Tracy Lines, ‘Greatest Hits’ features stunning photography by Nikki To and 10 amazing pop-up sculptures by paper engineer Benja Harney aka Paperform.
Recipes range from jewel-like mini ice-cream cone cakes and cartoony cupcakes (complete with fried egg decorations) to seriously chocolatey mud cakes.
’Tis the season to be jolly and in Sabbath’s world you can never have too many sprinkles so we reckon it’s the perfect culinary Christmas gift. The Great British Bake Off? Move over, darling…
